CAPITAL CITY MUSEUM 2019 TOURS

 

Ward Oates Amphitheatre occupies a beautiful site overlooking the scenic Kentucky River and provides a spectacular setting for all types of presentations: concerts, theatrical productions, and films. Patrons bring their own seating for use on a series of grassy risers that offer perfect views of the amphitheatre stage and the Kentucky River. Watch for a September theatrical celebration of artist Paul Sawyier in a special plein air event for the entire family. Kentucky River Boat tours. The river provided transportation for early Native Americans, settlers and entrepreneurs, powered early industries, and inspired both painters and photographers. Russ Hatter’s Downtown Walking Tour discusses the origins of Kentucky’s capital city, flavored with tales of early historic personalities and their homes. Fee: $5.00 per person age 12 and older. Advance reservations required: 502-803-1808 or russh1214@gmail.com       

Russ Kennedy’s Free Kentucky River Park Walk starts at Farmer’s Market Pavilion, Wilkinson and Broadway. The hour long tour highlights the impact of the river on the history of Frankfort. Advance reservations required – 502-803-0242.

Chuck Bogart’s Free Historic Walking Railroad Tours start at the L & N depot adjacent to the Capital City Museum. The hour-long tour covers early Frankfort railroad history to the present. Advance reservations: 502-227-2436.  

Russ Hatter’s popular Murder & Mayhem Tour returns Thursday nights in October 7:30 PM. Fee: $10 per person age 18 and up. Advance reservations: 502-696-0607 or email: russh1214@gmail.com                

The Leslie W. Morris Park on Fort Hill features two Civil War forts, the Sullivan House interpretive center, picnic pavilion, scenic downtown Frankfort overlook, and hiking trails. Visitor's Center is open 11AM to 5PM, Monday through Saturday, Memorial Day to October 31. Park is open to vehicular traffic, dawn to dusk, year round.
